By an order from Governor Cuomo issued on March 27, 2020, related to the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), all New York State Schools will continue to be closed until April 15, 2020. The decision to close schools for students is a proactive measure to prevent the spread of the virus. This does not indicate a quarantine of Broome County.
However, with the closing of all Vestal Schools to students, all school-related activities originally scheduled from March 16 - April 15 are likewise canceled. These include athletics, after-school activities for students, and parent group meetings, etc. If an event can be rescheduled at a later date, we will provide that information to our families via this website.
During this closure, we want to make sure families know that students ages 18 and under can visit locations throughout Broome and Tioga Counties between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., Monday through Friday for multiple "Grab & Go" meals per student per day. We are being told that you can go to the site closest to you no matter where you live or what school you attend. Within the District, you may pick up meals at African Road or Clayton Avenue Elementary Schools. If you have any special dietary needs, please call 211. A schedule of "Grab & Go" meals distribution is available on our COVID-19/Vestal Home Learning Resources web page. This page also hosts multiple educational resources to support home learning during the closure.
District buildings, playgrounds and athletic fields are likewise closed during this period.
We understand that this may be a challenging time for our students and families. We encourage you to reach out to your school at the email above if you need support. Someone will also be available in the main Administration office Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. Please call 757-2211 or 757-2320.
