Southern Tier Robotics Team gears up for First Robotics competition

Get ready to cheer on the Southern Tier Robotics team! Team #2503, based at Vestal High School, is readying its robot for the 2022 Greater Pittsburgh Regional First Robotics competition March 16 - 19, 2022.

A total of seven members of the nine-member team will be headed to California University of Pennsylvania next week to put their robot through its paces against teams from six other states. This year’s challenge includes the robots shooting color-coded balls into a goal and then climbing up monkey bars after the match. For a video animation, go to https://youtu.be/LgniEjI9cCM

The team began building its robot on January 6, assisted by two mentors from the community, Jacob Allison and Drew Williams from Lockheed-Martin. Drew is a Vestal High School Class of 2016 graduate and was a member of the TigerTronics team comprised of Union Endicott and Vestal students when he attended Vestal. “I want to inspire high school students to do programming and machining,” said Williams, when asked why he wanted to mentor this year’s team.

Southern Tier Robotics was formerly TigerTronics. The organization is focused on the core areas of Engineering, Learning, Community and Competition
