Vestal Central School District’s Music Department is pleased to announce that five Vestal High School students have been selected by the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) for its All-State Conference scheduled for December 2 – 5, 2021, in Rochester, New York.
Sophomore Ian Chung (piano) is performing in the Piano Showcase Recital on the afternoon of December 3. He was selected out of 100 applicants to perform. Catherine Hayes (soprano 2) will sing in the Mixed Chorus on December 4.
Performing with the All-State Symphony Orchestra on December 5 are Joshua Jang (cello), Giuseppe Piccirilli (percussion), and Samson Wong (violin).
In addition to his All-State Festival honors, Joshua Jang has also been invited to play a solo with the Cayuga Chamber Orchestra on December 12 during the CCO’s “Home for the Holidays” concert as a Youth Concerto competition winner. He will also be performing at Carnegie Hall in February 2022.
Senior Catherine Hayes is a member of the Vestal Voices, under the direction of Austin Kiley. Giuseppe Piccirilli, a senior, is in the Vestal High School Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Ruth Crissman. Catherine Hayes, Juniors Joshua Jang and Samson Wong, as well as Ian Chung, are in the VHS Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Amelia Wilson.
