Congressman Anthony Brindisi (NY-22) announced on June 7, 2019, that he will be hosting the Congressional App Challenge (CAC), an app competition for students in grades 6-12. Brindisi, joined by students from Vestal High School, issued the challenge and encouraged students across the district to participate.
“It seems like there is an app for everything these days,” Brindisi
said. “But if you have a new idea for an app, listen up. Today I am issuing the Congressional App Challenge to the high school and middle school students in New York’s 22nd district. Let’s show the country that Upstate New York is leading in STEM education.”This is the first time New York’s 22nd district has participated in the CAC. The CAC is a public effort to encourage kids to learn how to code,
through annual district-wide competitions hosted by Members of Congress. CAC was
created because Congress recognized that STEM and computer-based skills are
essential for economic growth and innovation. By some estimates, the U.S. may
be short by as many as one million programmers by 2020.Students are encouraged to register online by September 15 before submitting their completed application by November 1. The competition is open to all students who meet the eligibility requirements, regardless of coding experience. Winners will be selected by panels of judges, drawn from the local
community, and honored by Congressman Brindisi. CAC winners are eligible to
have their apps featured in the U.S. Capitol building, on house.gov, and on the CAC website. For
