Vestal CSD Seal of Biliteracy Program highlighted

An article on our District's efforts to guide Vestal students to earn their Seal of Biliteracy at Graduation has been included in the most recent newsletter from the Office of Bilingual Education and World Languages in the New York State Education Department.

The article, attached below, was co-written by Assistant Principal at Vestal High School Gianni Cordisco, Director of Instruction Ingrid Clarke-Constable, and Assistant Superintendent for Instruction, Patrick J. Clarke.

Due to a strong World Languages program beginning in middle school, combined with a rich diversity of student heritage, Vestal is proud to have a growing number of students achieve this honor since the District joined the program in the 2018-19 school year. At that graduation, we saw 11 students earn their Seal of Biliteracy in nine different languages.

This year, 26 students will receive the Seal of Biliteracy at graduation on June 25 in English and 12 other world languages. One student, Lejla Mujakovic, earned her Seal in four separate languages, plus English! She is the very first student in New York State to achieve this!
