VHS students win Regional Scholastic Art Awards

We are pleased to share that five Vestal High School art students have been recognized in the 79th Scholastic Art Awards. Congratulations to Taylor Bryson, Lian Genese, Aliona Pomukchynsky, Delaney Schoenfeldt and Kyla Smith on their winning entries! They were notified by mail of their awards over the weekend of January 7, 2022.

Sophomore Aliona Pomukchynsky received a Gold Key in the category of Design for her piece. Winning Honorable Mentions in Drawing & Illustration are Taylor Bryson and Kyla Smith, both juniors. Seniors Lian Genese and Delaney Schoenfeldt also received Honorable Mentions in the categories of Film & Animation and Printmaking, respectively.

The winning art of all regional winners will be on display in the Arnot Art Museum’s East Gallery from February 1 – March 6, 2022. The Arnot Art Museum is located at 235 Lake Street, Elmira, NY. The exhibition will also be available to view digitally on the Museum’s website, www.arnotartmuseum.org

In April, Aliona’s Gold Key piece will go to New York City for the National Scholastic judging.

The Vestal High School art educators who taught these student artists include Melissa Restuccia, Vestal Central School District Art chair, Sean Bowers, Peter Durham, and Mallory Little.

The Alliance for Young Artists & Writers celebrates the creative achievement of America’s teens and, in 1923, founded the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards in order to offer recognition and scholarships to students based on their artistic talents.
