Clayton Ave. Elementary is now home to a Little Free Library. Located outside the school's entrance, the new Little Free Library contains children's books that can be taken home free of charge. Book donations can also be left in the little library.
The dream of having a Little Free Library outside the school, aimed at making books available to children in both our school and the community, started with CAE paraprofessional Helen Criscitello and first grade teacher Amy Braman's shared desire to make it happen.
Ms. Criscitello showed some pictures to her daughter’s boyfriend, initially thinking that she might construct the library. However, two days later, he showed up at her house with the library fully constructed and presented it to her as a birthday gift! Helen then painted three coats of white paint on the entire thing. Then Ms. Braman picked it up from Helen’s house and brought it home, where her daughter painted flowers on the sides. Afterward, Amy painted the doors and back green and coated the whole library with several coats of finish. Helen and Amy paid for the charter, ensuring the library would be listed on the official Little Free Library map. And voilà—a Little Free Library was born!
There is a bin in the CAE staff room for those who would like to drop off children's books. All donations are welcome!
