Field Hockey teammates sign letters of intent

Lady Golden Bear Field Hockey teammates Hannah Barnard and Bailey Matthews shared the spotlight during a joint ceremony to sign their letters of intent accepting college scholarships for field hockey. The signing took place with friends, family and teammates cheering them on at 3 p.m. on Thursday, June 8.

Hannah, the daughter of Nicole and Jeffrey Barnard of Vestal, helped the team to three Section IV championships and also to an All-State Tournament Team Sportsmanship Award. A member of the Southern Tier Storm travel team, she plans to major in Criminal Justice at Division II Bloomsburg University as she takes the field with the Huskies in the fall.

Earning a Presidential Scholar Award from Division I’s University of Vermont, Bailey, the daughter of Doug and Monica Matthews, will keep her green and gold as she joins the VCats’ field hockey squad. A three-year starter for the Golden Bear’s field hockey team, Bailey assisted her team to four Section IV and NYS High School Semi-Final victories. Her senior year, she was also a Section IV All-Star selection. Off the field, Bailey is a member of the National Honor Society, and has spent her entire high school career on the honor roll. In addition, she has received Student Recognition and Scholar Athlete awards for four years. Bailey plays alongside Hannah with the Southern Tier Storm travel team as well.
