Young writers surrounded the school at Vestal Hills on June 12. Sweet voices filled the air with their excitement; their words floating and fluttering on the breeze like literary butterflies flitting from ear to ear. It was a school-wide celebration of literacy as students from different grade levels gathered together in small groups on picnic blankets to read to one another. The youngest student in each group, encouraged by the older ones, went first, and then they took turns sharing their writing until every last book was read. After each author read their book, the children bestowed another gift on one another... they shared what they liked about each other's writing.
